NORTHERN & SOUTHERN IRELAND

The following are detailed maps, taken from the Ordnance Survey 25" or 1:2500 maps and here reduced in scale to approx 14" to the miles. They are very detailed, showing individual houses, railway tracks etc. Each map covers an area of a mile and a half by a mile.
 
NEW....JUST IN ....IRELAND SHEET 36 BELFAST & HILSBOROUGH 1901 ONE INCH TO THE MILE 

This Inch to the Mile map covers Belfast and the area south and west, including Crumlin, Lisburn, Moira, Hillsborough and (in extreme SW corner) Lurgan.

The major feature is the city of Belfast, in the NE corner of the map. The map extends westward to Loch Neagh and other features include almost the entire course of the Lagan Navigation, the Great Northern Railway, sections of Lisburn & Banbridge Branch and Belfast & Antrim Jct Branch, Maze Racecourse, etc. On the reverse we include a detailed town plan of Hillsborough, incl Hillsborough Castle, St Malachi's church, Court House, etc

    This detailed map includes the Town Plans for the Village of Bessbrook and the small towns of Crossmaglen and Keady. This map is not standard to our series but includes three town plans, each at a scale of 18 inches to the mile, with 1880s directories for each included on the reverse.

    The map of Bessbrook covers the village centre, with features including Christ Church, RC and Presbyterian churches, Flax Spinning & Weaving mills, terminus of electric tramway, mill pond, bleach green, College Square, Claremont Square, Church Street area.

    The map of Crossmaglen is dominated by the vast Market Square with buildings around it shown, also St Patrick's RC church.

    The map of Keady shows the town centre, including Town Hall, St Clare's Convent, churches, Flax Spinning Mill, Crossmore School, Beetling Mill, disused quarries, Mill Pond etc. The railway is shown as 'under construction'.

    This detailed map includes all three Town Plans for Downpatrick, reduced in scale to 24 inches to the mile. The map is double-sided, with sheets 2-3 on the main side, sheet 1 on the reverse. This was the first map we published in Ireland and so is not standard with other maps in the series..

    Most of the town centre is shown on the main side and features on sheets 2-3 include town centre, station, Cathedral, Infantry Barrack, Court House, Ardmore, markets, St Patrick's RC church, St Margaret's church, Irish Street, Market Street, English Street, Infirmary etc. On the reverse sheet 1 covers the northern part of the town including starch works and Rathkeltar. There is no introduction, but a 1900 directory of inhabitants is included

    This detailed map includes all six Town Plans for Limavady, reduced in scale to 18 inches to the mile. The map is double-side, with sheets 1-4 on the main side, sheets 5-6 on the reverse.

    Most of the town centre is included and features on sheets 1-4 include Midland Railway with station, Union Workhouse, Drumachose Presbyterian church, distillery, other churches, Catherine Street area, Main Street, Market Street, Christ Church, Irish Green Street, Scroggy House, weaving factory, Roe Bridge. Sheets 5-6 include RC church, Greystone Hall, Drumachose Rectory. On the reverse we also include a good section of the Inch to the Mile map for the area, covering the area around Limavady, with coverage westward to Ballykelly and Eglinton. One Inch to the Mile Maps

Also in this Edition, several of the One Inch to the Mile maps cover parts of Ireland. These cover a larger area but although they are less in less detail they provide an invaluable insight into a larger area showing small villages where a large scale map would not be comercialy viable
